A large Zen monastery at the foot of Tam Dao, a serene place of practice tied to the sacred Tay Thien scenic area.

Truc Lam Tay Thien Zen Monastery sits at the foot of Tam Dao mountain, one of the largest Zen monasteries in Vietnam, carrying on and developing the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen tradition founded by Buddha-King Tran Nhan Tong. The majestic complex, with its main hall, bell tower, drum tower, and statue garden, lies amid cool green mountains and forests, its quiet space drawing the heart into serenity. Tay Thien is also regarded as one of the cradles of Vietnamese Buddhism, tied to the legend of the National Mother of Tay Thien, Lang Thi Tieu. On a pilgrimage up to the Upper Temple along moss-covered stone steps through old-growth forest, visitors take in the scenery while sensing the millennium-deep spirituality of this sacred land.
