One of the delta's rare beaches: a long shallow shore of silty sand behind casuarina windbreaks and salt flats.

The Mekong Delta has almost no swimming beaches, so Ba Dong is the exception Tra Vinh keeps to itself. The shore is long and shallow, the sand carrying enough silt that the water runs pale brown rather than clear — the mark of the Mekong's mouths emptying nearby. Behind the beach are casuarina windbreaks and salt flats that blaze white in the dry season. The local catch is chu u crab and Ba Dong clams, steamed at the shacks along the sand. This is not a postcard beach; it is a very southern windy afternoon.
