An ancient sacred pond of the Khmer people, ringed by old-growth trees with majestically exposed roots.

Ba Om Pond is the most famous landscape in Tra Vinh, tied to a legend of a pond-digging contest between the men's team and the women's team to settle who would propose marriage. The large rectangular pond stays clear and green all year, mirroring rows of centuries-old hopea and dipterocarp trees. What amazes visitors is the enormous roots of the old trees rising right out of the ground, twisting into striking shapes like nature's own sculptures. Beside the pond stand an ancient Khmer pagoda and an ethnic-culture museum, preserving the soul of the southern Khmer community in peaceful Tra Vinh.
