The founding emperor's tomb, wild among pine forest and almost without visitors.

Gia Long founded the Nguyen dynasty, yet his is the emptiest tomb in the whole complex. The reason is distance: it lies furthest south, reached by ferry or a long detour, so tours skip it. In exchange, this is the one imperial tomb you can walk through without meeting anybody. The architecture is different too: few structures, little carving, the landscape left to speak — pine hills, mountains ringing the site, and two stone graves set side by side in the courtyard, the emperor's and the empress's. That is rare: every other Nguyen emperor lies alone.
