Dai Yem Waterfall

Dai Yem Waterfall — Son La

ePi.Longo · BY-SA 2.0

A fall spread across the rock like a silk bodice, at its best in the rains on the Moc Chau plateau.

The name comes from the shape: the water does not fall in a column but spreads across the cliff in a thin sheet, like the yem bodice of a Thai girl — and local legend says it is exactly that, the bodice a girl let down to save her lover from a flood. The fall has two tiers, the upper broad and open, the lower dropping among mossy boulders. In the rains from April to September the water covers the whole face; in the dry season it draws back into separate threads between the rocks. Tea hills and plum orchards surround it, so it fits easily into a day on the plateau.
