Vietnam's first national park — primary tropical rainforest and a thousand-year-old cho tree.
Cuc Phuong was Vietnam's first national park and remains one of its richest sites for biodiversity. A forest trail leads to the thousand-year-old cho tree, a trunk several people cannot span, and on to the Cave of Prehistoric Man, where traces of settlement thousands of years old were found. In late April and early May the whole forest erupts into butterfly season, tens of thousands drifting along the trails in white clouds. The park also runs an endangered primate rescue centre, home to langur species that survive nowhere but Vietnam.
