Mau Son Mountain

Mau Son Mountain — Lang Son

Viethavvh at vi.wikipedia · Public domain

A peak shrouded in cloud all year, one of the rare places in the north to see winter ice and frost, with peach orchards and ancient tea trees.

Rising over 1,500m above sea level, Mau Son is a mountain region cloaked in cloud all year on the Lang Son border. In winter, temperatures can drop below zero, and frost coats the trees white in a magical scene rarely seen in the north. On the summit remain the moss-covered ruins of old French-era villas amid a sea of clouds. The Red Dao people who live here preserve their traditional herbal-bath craft and their orchards of peach and ancient tea trees. Visitors climb Mau Son to chase the clouds, watch the sunrise and savour six-spurred chicken and the warming Mau Son wine.
