An east-coast fishing village with a long wooden pier, where you eat Ham Ninh crab straight from the pot.

Ham Ninh is on Phu Quoc's east coast, facing the mainland, and because the shore here is very shallow the tide goes out hundreds of metres, exposing a flat of mud and sand where villagers go out to gather clams. A long wooden pier runs straight from the village out to deep water so boats can dock. The speciality is Ham Ninh crab — small, firm-fleshed, boiled and dipped in salt, pepper and lime, eaten at the stalls built on the pier itself. Because this side faces east, it is the only place on the island to watch the sun rise over the sea; the whole west coast is for sunsets.
