Mui Nai Beach

A brown-sand beach near Ha Tien, one of the few places in Vietnam to see the sun set into the sea.

Mui Nai is about five kilometres from central Ha Tien, and the name comes from the shape of the headland, said to resemble a deer's head reaching out to sea. The sand here is dark brown rather than white, because of silt carried in by the Mekong system — so do not come looking for turquoise water. What is worth having is the aspect: the beach faces west onto the Gulf of Thailand, whereas almost the entire Vietnamese coastline faces east. This is one of very few places in the country where you watch the sun drop straight into the sea. On the headland is a lighthouse and a slide track down to the beach.
