A twenty-metre fall dropping into a green pool, hidden below a bend of Highway 6.
Go Lao sits directly below Highway 6 near Mai Chau, yet hidden well enough that traffic passes without noticing. Five minutes down a stone stair from the road brings you to the foot: a white sheet falling from a cliff over twenty metres high into a jade-green pool, spray cooling a whole patch of forest. The Thai people of the nearby hamlet call it Go Lao and still swim here in summer. In the rains it doubles in width and drowns out conversation; in the dry season there is less water but the whole mossy black cliff shows behind the curtain.
