Lotte Observation Deck — Hanoi

A glass floor on the 65th storey, where the Red River and West Lake come into view at once.

Hanoi is a low city, most of it only a few storeys, so climbing two hundred metres puts almost all of it in front of you at once: the wide sheet of West Lake to the north, the Red River curving away east, the crowded tiled roofs of the Old Quarter, and the new districts rising to the west. The deck on the 65th floor has several panels of glass floor looking straight down — the point at which everybody hesitates before stepping on. Arriving about forty minutes before sunset is the sensible plan: you catch the city in daylight, in the colour change, and lit up, all on one ticket.
