Hon Da Bac

Hon Da Bac — Ca Mau

Genghiskhanviet · Public domain

A granite outcrop on the western sea, now bridged to the mainland, with strange stacks of rounded boulders.

In a province that is almost entirely mud and mangrove, Hon Da Bac comes as a surprise: a granite cluster rising straight out of the western sea, now linked to the mainland by a bridge so you can walk out. Its shoreline is a jumble of smooth rounded boulders stacked by millions of years of surf, with clefts local people call the fairy's footprint and the fairy's yard. On the island stands a whale temple, the faith of the western-sea fishermen. Late in the day the sun drops straight into the Gulf of Thailand ahead of you — one of the few places in Ca Mau to watch a sea sunset from rock.
