Do Temple

Do Temple — Bac Ninh

Binh Giang · Public domain

An ancient temple honoring eight Ly Dynasty kings, an imposing structure in the storied land of Kinh Bac.

Do Temple, also known as Co Phap Palace, is dedicated to the eight kings of the Ly Dynasty, the royal house that opened Dai Viet's brilliant civilization. Located in Dinh Bang village, the temple was built in the time of Ly Cong Uan and restored over many centuries, with symmetrical architecture and majestic curved roofs reflected in a crescent-shaped pond. Each year on the full moon of the third lunar month, the Do Temple Festival vividly re-enacts King Ly Thai To's move of the capital to Thang Long. This is where the cultural essence of Kinh Bac converges, bound up with the sweet, captivating melodies of quan ho folk song.
