Cam Mountain — An Giang

The highest of the Seven Mountains, cool year-round, with Thuy Liem lake and a giant Maitreya Buddha at the summit.

In the flat expanse of An Giang, the Seven Mountains rise like a cluster of stone islands, and Cam is the tallest of them. Climb it and the temperature drops noticeably — locals call it the Da Lat of the delta. At the top lies the broad Thuy Liem lake, ringed by Van Linh and Phat Lon pagodas, and a seated Maitreya Buddha over thirty metres tall looking out across the plain; on clear days you can see to the Cambodian border. The road up passes rock outcrops, caves and hermitages tied to the Buu Son Ky Huong faith — this range has long been the ground of southern Vietnam's home-grown sects.
