More than 700 wooden houses gathered in the middle of the city — and the birthplace of bibimbap.

Nowhere else in Korea has so many hanok in one place: more than seven hundred stand side by side, their black tiled roofs forming waves when seen from the Omokdae viewpoint. Jeonju is the ancestral home of the Yi clan who founded the Joseon dynasty, and it is also the country's food capital — Jeonju bibimbap is served in a brass bowl with more than thirty ingredients, its rice cooked in beef broth. In the evening lanterns light the lanes and the smell of fried rice cakes drifts through the snack street.
