Korea's only national park holding both mountain and sea, with a rock shore layered like stacked books.

Byeonsanbando is the only Korean national park to take in both a mountain area and a marine one inside a single boundary. The mountain side holds Naesosa temple, approached along an avenue of red pines, with carved flower doors left unpainted and weathered over four centuries. The sea side holds Chaeseokgang — sedimentary rock the waves have cut into flat layers stacked on top of each other, exactly like an enormous pile of books, walkable only at low tide. Sunset falls straight into the Yellow Sea behind those layers, and that is the photograph everyone takes home from Byeonsan.

Did you know

Travel tips

Check the tide before heading to Chaeseokgang — at high water you cannot get down.
