An island joined to the mainland by a seafront strip of seafood restaurants and fairground music.

Wolmido was once a real island; now a causeway joins it to Incheon, and it keeps the cheerful noise of an eighties seaside resort. The shore road is lined with seafood restaurants whose tanks still twitch, interspersed with fairground rides that are old but still running. At dusk the sun drops straight into the Yellow Sea behind container ships waiting for port — an industrial sunset, and a beautiful one. Ferries leave from the pier here for the smaller islands offshore.

Site of the 1950 Incheon Landing during the Korean War.
The Wolmi seafront promenade runs about 1 km, packed with seafood places.
Ferries connect to Yeongjong and Muui islands.
The Wolmi Sea Train monorail loops around the island.

Travel tips

Bus 45 from Incheon station takes about 15 minutes.
Seafood is sold by weight — agree on the price before ordering.
Sunset is the best time to ride the Sea Train.
