Songdo Central Park

A city reclaimed from the sea and designed from scratch, with a saltwater canal running between glass towers.

Songdo was raised from the bed of the Yellow Sea — a city planned in full on paper before a single brick was laid. Its spine is the central park, with a saltwater canal over a kilometre long where visitors kayak or ride flat boats between mirrored towers. At night the light from the high-rises spills onto the water and the scene looks more like a render than a real place. This is where you see another face of Korea: no palaces, no hanok, just a future installed in advance.

A good stop if you have a long layover at Incheon airport.
Go up G-Tower's free observatory for the whole-city view.
Rent a tandem bike and ride the canal in the late afternoon.
