A rocky island turned into a Mediterranean garden by one couple over thirty years.
In 1969 a married couple bought this barren rock after their boat sheltered here in a storm. They tried oranges and failed; tried other crops and failed; then spent three decades planting windbreaks and building terraces until the whole island became a garden of thousands of species, white statues and paths looking out to sea. It is reachable only by ferry, and each group has about ninety minutes ashore — just enough to walk the full circuit.
