Gangneung's long stretch of sand, with a brackish lagoon and a pine wood right behind it.

Gangneung is where Seoul goes when it needs the sea — since the high-speed train arrived the trip takes under two hours. Gyeongpo beach runs almost two kilometres, backed by Gyeongpo lagoon with a walking loop and the Gyeongpodae pavilion that has stood there since the 14th century. The old saying goes that here you can see five moons at once: in the sky, on the sea, on the lake, in your cup and in the eyes of the person opposite. The city is also Korea's coffee capital, with a whole café street at Anmok just around the bay.
