The rocky headland at the end of Yeongdo, where sheer cliffs drop straight into the sea and a white lighthouse stands alone.

Taejongdae is Busan's southern full stop: pine forest covers a headland, then the ground gives out into cliffs a hundred metres high standing over the water. A road train loops the point, but walking shows you more — the path follows the edge of the wood and now and then opens onto the open sea. Below the lighthouse, stone steps lead down to a rock shelf where women sell live seafood, squid and sea cucumber laid out straight on the stone. The name comes from King Taejong Muyeol of Silla, said to have practised archery here.

Walk down and ride the train back up if you'd rather skip the climb.
