A green islet in the Tien River, famous for fruit orchards, honey and the sweet melodies of don ca tai tu.
Thoi Son Islet, also known as Lan Islet, is one of the four 'sacred-animal' islets adrift in the gentle Tien River. Setting foot on the islet, visitors wander into lush orchards of longan, durian and green-skinned pomelo. Locals offer guests honey tea with kumquat, fresh fruit picked straight from the garden, and the chance to hear artists perform don ca tai tu, the cultural heritage of southern Vietnam. Best of all is riding a sampan as ao-ba-ba-clad girls paddle through small canals shaded by water-coconut palms. A day in Thoi Son captures the wholehearted, hospitable soul of the Mekong countryside.
