The tombs and temples of the Tran kings on their ancestral ground at Long Hung, known as Thai Duong Lang.
The Tran dynasty began as fishing folk in this Long Hung country, and when its first kings died they were brought back here for burial. Thai Duong Lang is a complex of tombs and temples spread across open field, with three great burial mounds for kings Tran Thai Tong, Tran Thanh Tong and Tran Nhan Tong. The temples were rebuilt in traditional style and hold tablets to the Tran kings and generals. The festival opens on the 13th of the first lunar month with a water-drawing rite from the Red River — a reminder of the riverine origins of a family that twice defeated the Mongol empire.
