A magnificent tunnel village underground, where a whole community resiliently lived and fought through years of relentless bombing.

The Vinh Moc Tunnels are a feat of the will of the people of Quang Tri, a village set deep within the red basalt earth of the Vinh Linh area. Through the fierce years of bombing, the people here dug a tunnel system nearly two kilometers long across three deep levels, enough to house hundreds. Within this earth were wells, a maternity room where seventeen babies were born, a meeting hall, a clinic and even family quarters. Stepping into the cool tunnels, visitors cannot help but admire the fierce vitality and indomitable spirit of a people who turned the earth into a fortress to guard their village and their country.
