A small island with a crescent beach and four hundred steps to the classic bay view.
The island is named after Gherman Titov, the Soviet cosmonaut who came here with President Ho Chi Minh in 1962 and had the island named for him. It is tiny, with a crescent of sand curled against the foot of the hill, but the reason everyone climbs is the staircase: nearly four hundred steep steps to the top, and from the pavilion there the most famous panorama of Ha Long bay — hundreds of limestone islands spread in every direction with white cruise boats scattered below. Four hundred steps in humid heat is real work; climb early or late in the day.
