Ly Son rises from the East Sea like a living geological museum, formed by five volcanoes that erupted millions of years ago. Locals call the island the homeland of the Hoang Sa flotilla, where each year the Khao Le The Linh ceremony honors the sons who went to guard the seas. Atop Thoi Loi peak, you'll see emerald garlic fields stretching over basalt rock, a placid freshwater lake, and the solemn To Vo Gate mirrored in the sunset. The sea here is crystal clear, and snorkeling among the coral feels like entering an underwater palace. Ly Son is both majestic and unpretentious, holding travelers in its spell.
