A sheltered bay below Ngang Pass, the resting place of General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Vung Chua is a wind-sheltered bay at the foot of the Hoanh Son range, screened by three small islands — La, Gio and Yen — so the water is almost always calm. In 2013 General Vo Nguyen Giap was buried on the hillside above the bay, as he had asked, and since then millions have come to pay respects. The path up to the grave runs through casuarina, ending in a small terrace facing the East Sea. Below, white sand runs along the shore and Yen Island sits about a kilometre out — an island where swiftlets still nest, exactly as its name says.
