A Giay village in the Muong Hoa valley, where you sleep in a homestay among the terraces.

Ta Van lies deep in the Muong Hoa valley, about ten kilometres from town, and is where most people trekking around Sa Pa stop for the night. The village is mainly Giay, with Hmong and Red Dao in the neighbouring hamlets. What sets it apart from Cat Cat is scale: this is still a working farming village, terraces right up against the houses, buffalo on the lane, and tourism existing as homestays inside people's own houses rather than a ticketed site. Staying a night and waking to mist filling the valley and then burning off is why people walk all the way in.
