Cau Dat Tea Hill

A century-old tea estate at 1,650m, where cloud rolls in at first light.

The French established tea plantations at Cau Dat in 1927, and those flat-clipped rows of tea across the hillsides are still there, along with the old tea factory and its colonial-era machinery. Cau Dat sits at about 1,650 metres, higher than central Da Lat, which makes it one of the best-known cloud-hunting spots: from about five in the morning cloud rises and fills the valleys below, leaving the tops of the tea hills standing out like islands. By day it is simply a beautiful stretch of tea hills twenty-five kilometres from the centre, several degrees colder than Da Lat.
