A white Buddha twenty-four metres tall on a hilltop, looking over the whole city.
Long Son sits at the foot of Trai Thuy hill, and from the courtyard a hundred and fifty stone steps climb to the summit, where a white seated Buddha twenty-four metres high rests on a lotus throne, visible from all over Nha Trang. Around the base are portraits of the monks who burned themselves to death in 1963 in protest at the suppression of Buddhism. Halfway up is a reclining Buddha fourteen metres long. At the top the city spreads out on one side and the western mountains stand on the other — and none of it costs anything.
