A Belle Époque opera house at the head of Dong Khoi street, two goddesses carved into the facade.

The opera house opened in 1900, built in the Belle Époque style then fashionable in France: a curved facade, tall arched doors, and two carved goddesses holding up the entablature above the entrance. Over a century it has been in turn a theatre, the seat of the Lower House under the Republic of Vietnam, and a theatre again. Today it stages À Ố Show — bamboo circus crossed with contemporary dance, drawn from village life in the southern delta, and the easiest show to follow for anyone without Vietnamese. It is closed by day, so the lit facade in the evening is what there is to see.
