Soft, chewy glutinous rice dumplings drenched in golden Vĩnh Tường cane molasses, dusted with sesame and warming ginger — a humble sweet of Vĩnh Phúc.
Bánh trùng mật mía is a specialty of the Vĩnh Tường area of Vĩnh Phúc, tied to its sweet sugarcane fields. The dumplings are shaped from glutinous rice flour into rounds and boiled, then bathed in cane molasses thickened with ginger for fragrance. Served piping hot, sweet and scented with ginger and sesame, it is a comforting afternoon treat in the crisp, cool weather.
