A thousand-layer pastry with a soft crust and a filling of durian, mung bean and salted egg yolk — the sweet, rich 'melt-in-your-mouth' treat of Soc Trang.
The Teochew people of Vung Thom brought the craft of this pastry with them in the 17th century. The silk-thin crust is folded into a thousand layers around a filling of real durian mingled with salted egg yolk — a box of banh pia is the gift of the Mekong Delta whose fragrance 'fills the whole bus'.
Flavour: Sweet, rich durian with salty egg yolk
