The traditional wedding cake of the Kinh Bac region — a chewy translucent shell glowing gardenia-gold, filled with sweet mung bean and coconut.

From Dinh Bang village, homeland of the Ly dynasty, these square cakes wrapped in dong leaves symbolize the bond of husband and wife. The tapioca shell, studded with crunchy strands of papaya and dyed golden with gardenia fruit, is an indispensable offering at Bac Ninh engagement ceremonies.
