A melt-in-the-mouth cake of roasted glutinous rice flour, delicately sweet with sugar and nutty with peanuts and sesame, wrapped in five-colored paper like a highland Tet gift.

Banh khao is a traditional Tet treat that must grace the ancestral altars of the Tay and Nung people of Cao Bang. Fragrant glutinous rice is roasted, finely milled, then rested so the flour softens, before being pressed firmly in a wooden mold with a filling of sugar, peanuts and sesame. The elders believed a cake that kept well symbolized lasting fortune for the whole year.

Flavour: Delicately sweet, melting, nutty and rich
