Each Ghost Festival in the seventh lunar month, the Tay people of Chiem Hoa pound ramie leaves together with upland sticky rice to make a batch of glossy black cakes. Soft and fragrant with the scent of the leaf, sweet and nutty with mung bean filling — it's a country treat carried far and wide.
