Con Market

Con Market — Da Nang

Da Nang's largest market, and where locals go to eat — the food hall is the real destination here.

The name sounds odd but means something plain: the market stands on a raised mound of earth, in a district that used to flood. Since the 1940s it has been the city's stomach — upstairs sells fabric, dried goods and packaged specialities, but what brings people back is the food hall on the ground floor. Suction snails, pork rice-paper rolls, fermented-fish noodle soup, jelly sweet soup, jackfruit salad: one dish per stall, prices posted, plastic stools shared with office workers at lunch. This is a market for eating, not for buying gifts, and you should arrive hungry.
