A long white-sand beach down the city's eastern edge, where Da Nang's day starts earliest.

My Khe is that rare thing, a beach inside a major city: ten minutes by car from the centre. Fine white sand, a gentle slope and moderate surf for most of the year are why Forbes once ranked it among the most alluring beaches on the planet. But the thing worth remembering is not the harsh midday sun — it is five in the morning, when the whole city comes down to the water to swim and do exercises while basket boats land the night's catch. By half past six the beach thins out and hands itself back to the tourists. American troops stationed here during the war called this whole shore China Beach.
