The Duong family's early-20th-century house — a model of Indochinese architecture in the south, and a film location.
The Duong family house at Binh Thuy is where two architectures meet without fighting: a five-bay southern timber frame behind a facade of curved stairs, moulded columns and French encaustic tiles imported in the early 1900s. Inside, the mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture, altar cabinets, hanging lamps and original tiled floor all remain. An earlier owner loved orchids, so the surrounding garden was famous across Can Tho and the name 'orchid-garden house' has stuck. The house appeared in the film The Lover and is still looked after by Duong descendants.
