Can Tho's signature riverfront, where the Can Tho river meets the Hau, lit all night.
Ninh Kieu wharf dates from the 19th century and sits exactly where the Can Tho river joins the Hau — the junction that made the city. By day it is where boats leave at first light for Cai Rang floating market. By evening the riverside park fills with walkers, food stalls open, and the Ninh Kieu footbridge over the creek shifts through its colours. A statue of Ho Chi Minh looks out over the water, and floating restaurants moor along the bank. Standing here as a cargo ship passes on the vast Hau is the quickest way to understand why Can Tho is called the capital of the west.
