Phu Quy Island

Phu Quy Island — Binh Thuan

Thái Nhi at vi.wikipedia · Public domain

An island a hundred kilometres of sea from Phan Thiet, with black rock shores, coral ledges and windswept hills.

Phu Quy sits out in the East Sea, about a hundred kilometres from Phan Thiet and nearly three hours by fast ferry — far enough that mass tourism has not reached it. The island is small but has everything: Ganh Hang with its sheer black cliffs, the vivid blue of Bai Nho, the Infinity Pool looking out on an unbroken horizon, and wind turbines turning on bare hills. This is fishing country: the fish market opens at first light, grouper pens float offshore, and whale temples hold whale skeletons the fishermen have kept for centuries. The ring road is only about thirty kilometres — a morning on a motorbike covers it.
