Founded in 1741, Hoi Khanh is the oldest pagoda in Binh Duong and was a centre of the southern Buddhist revival in the early 20th century — Nguyen Sinh Sac, father of Ho Chi Minh, worked here for a time. The old pagoda is still a low timber hall with altar statues carved from jackfruit wood by Thu Dau Mot craftsmen, from a region long known for woodwork and lacquer. What stops most visitors, though, is newer: a fifty-two-metre reclining Buddha laid along the roof of a two-storey building, visible from the street.
