Vietnam's largest natural freshwater lake, its blue waters embracing the primeval forest of Ba Be National Park.

Amid the great forests of Bac Kan, Ba Be Lake stretches like a calm ribbon of blue silk, framed by limestone cliffs and primeval forest. It is the country's largest natural mountain freshwater lake, formed over 200 million years ago. Riding a dugout canoe across the lake, visitors hear the gentle splash of the paddle while gazing at the Fairy Pond, Widow Island and the magnificent Puong Cave. Along both banks lie Tay villages with their ancient stilt houses. As dusk falls, the lake turns golden-orange and flocks of storks return to roost, creating a rare scene of peace.
