Chewy rice cake sticks in a sweet-hot chilli sauce — Korea's national street food.

The original palace version was stir-fried in soy sauce and wasn't spicy at all. The red gochujang version appeared in Sindang market in the 1950s and spread across the country. The rice cakes cook with fish cake, boiled egg and spring onion, and everybody orders a plate of fried snacks to dip in the sauce.
