🧄 Danyang garlic dishes

Garlic grown on limestone soil — roasted, fried in batter or stewed with chicken.

The limestone ground around Danyang gives firm garlic that is sharper and more fragrant than elsewhere, so the whole town sells food made from it: roasted cloves with salt, garlic tempura, chicken stewed with garlic, even garlic ice cream. At Danyang market the smell of roasting garlic drifts down the whole row and everyone is offered a taste.
