Eunhaeng-dong & Sky Road

A two-hundred-metre LED canopy over an old pedestrian street, playing films above people's heads.

Eunhaeng-dong is Daejeon's old central quarter, once busy and then in decline as the city shifted towards Dunsan. In 2013 the city hung a two-hundred-metre LED canopy across the pedestrian spine, and each evening it plays short films — fish swimming, meteors, flowers opening — directly overhead. It sounds gimmicky, and it worked: the quarter revived with restaurants, clothes shops and street bands. By day Eunhaeng-dong is an ordinary shopping street; it is worth coming after dark. Next to it is Daeheung-dong, full of cafés in old houses.
