The legacy of the 1993 World Expo, now a science park on the Gapcheon river.
Daejeon hosted the World Expo in 1993 and a whole exhibition ground rose beside the river. Thirty years on, the Hanbit Tower still stands as the city's landmark and the site has become a park with the national science museum, a musical fountain lake and footbridges that light up at night. Daejeon is Korea's research capital — KAIST and dozens of institutes sit nearby — so a science park here is not decoration.
